Dr. Denicia Carlay is a mother, healer, educator, and community activist. Denicia is a returning member of the Flourish Family as she previously oversaw the 2019 Caregiver Retreat and provided facilitation and healing work at Camp Akili, along with various Educator Retreats in 2018 and 2019. She now comes on board as the 2020 Family Healing Program Strategist and we are so glad to have her back! Denicia professional skillset includes years of teaching and training experience as a former lecturer and field consultant at UC Berkeley and trainer and curriculum writer with Bay Area Academy, as well as over 10 years of direct practice experience working with Children, Youth, and Families who have interfaced with the Public Child Welfare and Juvenile Probation systems. Denicia holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Southern California, Masters of Social Work from UC Berkeley, Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC) from San Jose State University, a California License as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and Doctorate in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Social Justice from San Francisco State University (go Gators!). Denicia remains dedicated to fostering hope and post-traumatic growth in ways that promote more equitable education outcomes for children and stronger bonds of connectivity within families.
